Description
The Lares Trek is one of the most enchanting alternative routes to Machu Picchu, offering travelers an experience that blends natural beauty, cultural immersion, and comfort. Unlike the more crowded trails, this route takes you through peaceful Andean valleys where snowcapped peaks rise above turquoise lagoons and herds of llamas and alpacas graze freely.
Along the way, you’ll have the chance to interact with local families living in traditional stone houses, dressed in vibrant handwoven clothing that reflects centuries of Andean heritage. These encounters offer an authentic glimpse into a way of life that has remained largely unchanged, making the journey as meaningful as the destination itself.
One of the highlights of the trek is the opportunity to relax in the natural hot springs of Lares, a soothing reward after a day of hiking through mountain passes and valleys. Evenings are spent under starry skies, with one night camping amidst the highlands and another night in a comfortable hotel in Aguas Calientes, at the foot of Machu Picchu.
The adventure culminates with the unforgettable visit to the legendary Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. Walking through its temples, terraces, and sacred spaces allows you to connect deeply with the legacy of one of the world’s most fascinating civilizations.
The Lares Trek is more than a hike—it’s a journey through nature, culture, and history that will stay with you forever.
