Día
- Today, we will depart at dawn towards Paracas, on a 3-hour journey covering approximately 240 kilometers south of Lima. We will arrive at the Paracas Peninsula, home to the most important wildlife sanctuary on the Peruvian coast. Here, we will take a guided boat tour to the Ballestas Islands, where we will observe sea lions, boobies, pelicans, penguins, and other marine birds. On the way there and back, we will have the chance to see the "Candelabra," a gigantic geoglyph of unknown origin, similar in style to the Nazca Lines, drawn in the sand on the hillside.
- In the afternoon, transfer by bus to the city of Nazca (450 km south of Lima), where we will check into our hotel for the night. Later, we will enjoy a brief city tour, learning about this town and its rich history with the guidance of our local expert on the Nazca culture.
- Dinner at the hotel is recommended.
Meals: Breakfast
Día
- Early in the morning, after breakfast, we will transfer to the Nazca airport to board a small plane for an overflight of the mysterious Nazca Lines: enormous geoglyphs depicting animals, birds, and geometric figures, drawn in the desert and only visible from the air.
- In the afternoon, transfer by bus to the city of Arequipa (approximately 10 hours), crossing coastal deserts and valleys along the way. Arrival in the “White City” of Arequipa, named for its beautiful colonial buildings made of white volcanic stone (sillar) from the nearby Misti volcano. Upon arrival, transfer to the selected hotel.
Meals: Breakfast
Día
- After breakfast, we will begin our guided tour of the “White City” of Arequipa, starting at the Plaza de Armas, one of the most beautiful in Peru; the Cathedral, an example of 19th-century Peruvian architecture that houses precious treasures of gold and silver; and the Church of the Society of Jesus, an ancient Jesuit temple, perhaps the most important in Arequipa for its history and tradition, with a magnificent façade featuring spiral columns, laurel crowns, flowers, and birds.
- A closer look reveals that European influence had its limits: the angels have Andean faces, and one of them even wears a feathered crown. We will then visit the Santa Catalina Convent, a “small city” dating back to the 17th century, opened to the public in 1970 after 400 years of cloister. A visit here is like traveling four centuries into the past, exploring its spacious courtyards and gardens, kitchens, slave quarters, and stone laundries. Around 20 nuns still live in a section of the convent, which once housed up to 500 cloistered nuns.
- The tour continues with a visit to the Yanahuara viewpoint, from where we can admire the surrounding volcanoes: Misti, Pichu Pichu, and Chachani. On the way, we will also visit the traditional countryside: Yanahuara viewpoint, Paucarpata, the Sabandía Mill, Vía Paisajista, Huasacache, and the Founder’s Mansion.
- Lunch at Sol de Mayo restaurant.
- Afterwards, we will return to the hotel and then depart for Chivay. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel for an overnight stay.
Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
Día
- Early in the morning, we will depart towards the Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint, from where we can admire the immense depth of the Colca Canyon, one of the deepest in the world, and where the majestic condor, the largest flying bird on Earth, can often be seen soaring in its natural habitat.
- On the way back to Chivay, we will observe archaeological remains and enjoy panoramic views of the canyon, including the impressive pre-Inca terraces. We will also visit the traditional villages of Yanque, Coporaque, Achoma, and Maca—a great opportunity to appreciate the daily life of their inhabitants, which has changed little since Inca times. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant.
- Afterwards, we will continue our journey towards the city of Puno, passing through Pampa Cañahuas and the Stone Forest. Along the way, we will see small villages with herds of sheep and llamas, as well as the surrounding mountains that create the stunning natural landscapes typical of the Peruvian highlands. We will also stop to admire the high Andean lagoon of Lagunillas, home to a variety of wild birds and native flora.
- We will pass the towns of Imata, Santa Lucía, and Juliaca, arriving in Puno at approximately 6:30 p.m. Transfer to your selected hotel for overnight stay.
Meals: Breakfast
Día
- Early in the morning, after breakfast, we will embark on an unforgettable boat excursion on Lake Titicaca to visit the Uros Floating Islands, home to the ancient pre-Inca inhabitants of the lake, known as the “Water Tribe.” These Andean natives build their islands by periodically adding new layers of totora reeds (scirpus totora), a plant of the papyrus family. The same material is also used to construct their houses and boats.
- We will continue sailing to the island of Taquile, whose inhabitants have developed, generation after generation, an efficient and original social system as well as a magnificent textile art tradition. Upon arrival, you will have free time for lunch, followed by a hike through the island’s hills and archaeological sites.
- In the afternoon, we will return to Puno and transfer to the bus terminal to board the bus to La Paz, Bolivia, on a journey of approximately 8 hours. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel for overnight stay.
Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
Día
- In the morning, we will enjoy a guided city tour of La Paz, including Plaza Murillo, the San Francisco Temple, colonial streets, and ancient mansions. We will also visit the famous Witches’ Market and the city’s residential districts. Afterwards, we will continue to the Moon Valley, located near La Paz, where erosion over time has shaped the landscape into a scenery resembling the surface of the moon.
- Return to your selected hotel in La Paz. At the appropriate time, return transfer to Puno.
Meals: Breakfast
Día
- Breakfast. In the morning, departure by bus to the city of Cusco. We will travel across the high plateau of Collao, stopping in the town of Ayaviri, an important center for textiles and livestock, to visit the impressive Kalasaya Temple, ruins of the ancient Pucará culture.
- On the way, we will stop at Raqchi, where we will see a spectacular Inca sanctuary built by Pachacutec and dedicated to the great Inca god Wiracocha. It features a large central wall with a finely crafted Inca stone base, while the other walls are made of giant adobe bricks. The structure also has two circular side columns. Around the temple, there are several buildings that were once used as dwellings or storage rooms.
- Approximately 70 km further along, we will pass through the La Raya ranch, where we can observe herds of vicuñas and llamas. During the journey, we will also enjoy the view of the enchanting Lake Wacarpay, which offers spectacular reflections of the surrounding mountains on its still waters.
- We continue towards the beautiful town of Andahuaylillas to visit the Church of San Pedro de Andahuaylillas, better known as the “Sistine Chapel of the Americas,” due to its stunning polychrome ceiling.
- Buffet lunch at a quiet countryside restaurant, where you will enjoy the delicious culinary art of the region. Upon arrival in Cusco, meet and transfer to your hotel. Later, we will have a guided tour of the city to visit its main attractions.
- At 7:45 p.m., dinner with a folkloric show at a local Cusco restaurant, where musicians will perform traditional Andean melodies and dancers in colorful costumes will showcase ancestral dances of our country—ending with an invitation for the most enthusiastic guests to join the show.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Show
Día
- Early in the morning, you will have breakfast at your hotel. Transfer to the Poroy train station, located about 30 minutes from the city of Cusco, to board your train for a 3.5-hour journey to Aguas Calientes, the town at the foot of Machu Picchu, rediscovered in 1911 by the American explorer Hiram Bingham.
- Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, we will ascend to the “Lost City of the Incas” on a 25-minute bus ride, zigzagging up the mountainside.
- We will explore the citadel for approximately 3 hours. Our guide will explain the impressive technological achievements of the builders of this incredible site: the precise accuracy in the construction of massive stone structures, the water channels that reveal advanced hydraulic knowledge, the stairways carved into the living rock of the mountain, and the Intihuatana (or “the highest point of the Sun”), which served as a solar calendar regulating agricultural cycles. These are all tangible expressions of the Incas’ deep knowledge and technological advancement.
- Along with the Temple of the Sun, the Royal Tomb, the Priest’s House, the Inca Baths, and the Temple of the Three Windows, these constructions allow us to step back in time and, with the help of our guide, relive the lives of these truly admirable builders.
- Back in Aguas Calientes, lunch will be served at a local restaurant (not included).
- In the afternoon, we will take the train back to Cusco, where our representative will be waiting for your transfer to the hotel.
